Fire Department
The La Conner Fire Department
(LCFD ) has served our community for over 100 years. The Fire Department
became an official department of the Town in 1932. In the 1960's
local Fire Districts were formed but LCFD continued to serve the
Town and many of the areas outside of Town.
For over 25 years, the La Conner Fire Department
has worked under an interlocal agreement between Fire District
13 and the Town. The latest agreement was developed in 2004. LCFD
is strictly a Town department that answers calls in portions of
the district under the guidelines of the current interlocal agreement;
these guidelines change periodically.
LCDF had the first heart defibrillator to be
used by an all volunteer department in the State of Washington.
The La Conner Volunteer Fire Fighter Association raised money throughout the community to purchase the defibrillator and special protocols were developed by the Skagit County Medical Control Officer. LCDF was also the second
department in the county to have a Compressed Air Foam (CAF) pumper.
Compressed air is a very effective fire fighting tool which quickly
knocks down flames by robbing them of oxygen and increasing the
effectiveness of water. It also reduces post fire damage by reducing
the need for water to fight fires.
The La Conner Volunteer Fire Department currently has 20 active members, 7 fire explorers and 5 dual responders.
All except the Explorers are active firefighters. 14 are EMTs
and 1 is a First Responder. About 70-80% of our calls are EMT
related. 20-30% are fire service calls. Our management team includes:
Dan Taylor, Fire Chief
Don Wright, Asst. Fire Chief
Both can be reached at 360-466-3515. Leave a message and your call will be returned as soon as possible.
We have a new fire station at 12142 Chilberg
Road just east of Town. The station was jointly built by the Town
of La Conner and Skagit County Fire District 13. It houses two
Class A pumpers, a 3000 gallon water tender and one rescue vehicle.
The station is complete with a training room, District and Town
offices, medical supply room, 2 sleeper rooms, decontamination
showers, tool room, storage room and a 3000 square foot mezzanine
currently occupied by our Firemen's Association.
Children's Fire Safety House
Annually, the Fire Service conducts a 3 day fire safety program
at La Conner Elementary School. The program provides fire safety
training to pre-school and elementary school children.

La Conner Volunteer Firemen's
Association
The Firemen's Association is a private non-profit organization
which provides fundraising and community support to our Fire Department.
They sponsor an Easter Egg Hunt and a St. Patrick's Day Dance
at Maple Hall which is the Fire Department's major fundraiser.
Along with the Fire Service, the Association participates in all
community parades. The Firemen's Association also sponsors the
Fire Service Museum on 1st Street in La Conner. The museum provides
a wonderful opportunity to view "old-time" fire equipment
and gear - a 1884 horse drawn, hand-pumped fire-fighting apparatus
as well as artifacts, photographs, correspondence and reminiscences
of pioneer days in Skagit Valley.
The La Conner Fire service has over 320 cumulative
years of fire fighting and 120 cumulative years medical experience.
